Altweiberfastnacht in Dusseldorf

The women have the administration of Duesseldorf in hand.

The starting signal will be given, and to the delight of the Carnival Jesters the fun and amusement will begin. Duesseldorf City is mutated into the Carnival- epicenter at 11 past 11am

Traditionally on Carnival Thursday, the women (called Möhnen) storm the City Council Offices to capture the Lord Mayor and take over the administration of the City for the night and that is the official opening of the street carnival in the old city of Düsseldorf.
The price of the release of Duesseldorf’s Lord Mayor is a large bottle of wine, singing and dancing with the Möhnen.

In Rhineland on this day, the ladies cut the ties of the men, it does not matter if they are in a position of importance, (all the better), or his age, old and young. If the men remember, they do not wear their best or favourite tie. They also takeover the weekend market at Karlplatz.

To party into the night, the ladies disappear into the surrounding hotels and pubs to celebrate into the early morning of the following day.
