Ash Wednesday in Duesseldorf

He died too young: The Duesseldorf Hoppeditz. He lived only for 3 short months to entertain the fools of the State Capital. On Ash Wednesday, it’s all over.

On Ash Wednesday, friends meet to enjoy a meal of fish and the burning of Hoppeditz. Just one more chance to celebrate, but a little more restricted. When Hoppeditz is burning at the stake and twisting and turning on the bonfire, there is no return, it is the end of Carnival. At least until the 11th of the 11th, when everything begins again at the beginning.
